John Henry Ero'.vn, who was released after serving seven years of a sentence of eighteen for illegal "practices, has instituted proceedings against Dr Teare, gaol surgeon at the Terrace prison, Wellington, claiming .£2OOO damages for alleged unskilful treatment during Brown's incarceration. Brown’s release was due to his having become a confirmed cripple through paralysis.
