County Tenders.
(To the Editor oi the Times.) g IR _I was much surprised on hearing of tho’ proceedings at tho County Council yesterday in regard to tenders, especially that for squaring timber for Pouawa bridge. I took a" tender, duly sealed and ill proper form, to the Council office. I offered it to tho young lady working at the books behind the counter in tho office—that was before the advertised time for the closing of tenders. The young lady asked me to°put it into tho tender box, which I did in her presence, and in a subsequent interview I had with Mr Warren and the young lady, tho latter affirmed that she had seen mo put the letter into the tender box. Strango to say, when tho tenders were called on at tho Council, it was not forthcoming. Only one tender was put before the Council. By some means or otlior my tender was not brought forward, though I am at present working in the very°bush and at the same kind of trees as tho timber must come from, and have men, camp, tools, provisions, and everything on the ground. Failing the production oi my tender I now, as a matter of I principle, claim that I am entitled to the I contract, and take the first opportunity of . saying eo in public,-I am, etc.,^^
