A capital programme has boon provided for the Wesleyan Band of Hope meeting this evening. Captain Edwin wired yesterday Moderate westerly winds, glass fall, poortides, indications for warmer weather. The Poverty Bay Hum, Club hounds meet, at 2 to-morrow afternoon on the Waikanae. A notice iu regard to the cleaning out of dirty tanks is issued by the Town Clerk. An experienced cook is wanted tothe Universal Dining Rooms- ; also a housemaid, The Empire Skating Rink will be open this afternoon, also to-morrow night. “ Books, magazines, and old linen will be very acceptable at the Hospital,” Miss Stewart, the Matron, informs US.; Messrs Williams and Kettle and the .Loan and Mercantile Company hold the monthly stock sales at Matawliero today.
“ The average for the year lias so far been 21i,” said the Sec-relay of the Hospital Trustees last night, in referring to the number of patients in the hospital. Messrs- Common, Shelton and Company call attention to their stock of fencing material. Their totara, posts and strainers are full size ami well seasoned.
A special train is to he run between Gisborne and Ormond this afternoon to suit the convenience of holiday-ma-kers. The first train leaves town at: l.fifi p.m., and passengers may return hy the 2.15 or the I lf) train from Ormond.-
Mr A. P. Agnew, general storekeeper of Tolago Bay, has a special advertisement in this issue in regard to Ivapni boots, which he is selling at a liberal discount for cash. Mr Agnew’s stock is one of the best m the district, aod settlors can rely upon obtaining whatever class of goods they require. There will no doubt be a. good attendance at the Empire Skating Rink to-morrow night to witness the’sportsprogramme provided for boys under IG. In addition to the mile and the obstacle race, there will be a football match, which is sure to provide ample fun for the spectators. The prices have been reduced for the occasion.;
At the meeting of the Hospital Trustees fast night, Mr. Joyce asked if there was any truth in reports that the Medical Officer was about to leave. The. Chairman said lie did not think so ; at any rate I)r. Craig had not intimated his intention of doing so. The reports probably arose from the fact that Dr. Craig had given noties to tiie Druids,

Very complimentary references were made to Lord lianfnrly when tlio subject of the Veterans’ Home was being discussed at the Borough Council meeting on Tuesday evening.- Councillor Miller stated that- they ought to give their heartiest-support to anything set <m foot by Lord Kanfurly, who m ail matters pertaining ),o the care of, the ;;«ed and of veterans, had taken a more active part titan any other Governor New Zealand had had. Star of Gisborne Lodge, No. 61,1.0.0. F., held their usual monthly degree meeting on Tuesday evening, Bro. Colebourne, i'.G., Degree Master, presiding. The attendance (owing to counter attractions, such as ping-pong, etc.) was not so large as could be desired. A meeting m connection with the British and Foreign Bible Society will he held on .Monday next, 28th inst., in the Wesleyan Church at o’clock. This Society exists for the purpose of circiilating the Scriptures in every language, and now prints the Bible, or portions of it, in about 301 different languages or dialects, and last year reached a total of -J.-ISO,OOO, and by means of depots and 7'-’5 Colporteurs and 532 Bihlewomen, seeks to put these into the hands of every person in every part of the world, especially m those parts where .the ordinary missionary cannot go'- It employs 300 colporteurs in China alone, and lasi, year circulated 728,000 copies, principally portions, and in some places the Bible has been made a text hook in the Civil Service examinations, The agent for New Zealand, the Rev.- F. H. Spencer, will give an address, illustrated with lantern views. He is endeavoring to incorporate the Society into tiie Church life of all denominations, as it is a Society whose work •isessential to the very bene esse of all churches aud their Home and Foreign missions. The Waiapu County Council are taking steps to create a separate hospital district.
The annual meeting of the Bowling Club will be hold on Wednesday evening next. The Secretary requests that all outstanding subscriptions shall be paid at once.

A ceremony of a pleasing nature took place at Messrs Nelson Bros.' works, Taruheru, on Tuesday iast, when Mr E. Kennedy was the recipient of a presentation ut the hands of his fellow-employees. The presentation was made by Mr Hodge, and took the form of a handsome travelling bag to Mr Kennedy, and a travelling rug for Mrs Kennedy. Reference was made by Mr LLodge to the high esteem in which Mr Kennedy was held at the Freezing Works, where he was engaged as engineer, and both Mr and Mrs Kennedy had the best wishes of the employees for their future happiness. Mr Kennedy, in a neat speech, returned thanks on behalf of himself and wife.
