The Ping-pong tournament, under tho auspices of tho Women’s Christian Temperance Union, was contiDued in the Academy of Music last night, when there was another largo attendance. Tho teamo competition occupied the whole of the ■’evening, and, after a keenly contested struggle,*the winners turned’up in Mr W. L. Coleman's team. Tho standard of pluy was generally admitted to ho a good ueal ahead of that of tho previous evening. Somo first-class games were played, and tho applause at timos was spontaneous and hearty. Shortly after 8 o’clock tho second round of the teams’ competition was coinnjcnced. Mrs Kane’s and Mr Lure s teams opposed each other, and the results of tho evening's play wero : Mrs Kano’s Team v. 100 138 Groat intorost was talton in tho final, in which two fino teams were opposed to each other. Coleman had a team of consistent players, but they had their hands full when they met Morico’s six, and only won by 28 strokes on the aggogate. Tho form shown during tho courso of tho teams’ competion leads to the conclusion that somo high-clas3 play will be soon in tho ladies' and gontlcmcn's singles championship, which commonco this evening. Of tho ladies, Miss Seymour, Mrs Kane, Miss N. Moriee, and Miss Heaney played finoly. tho two first-named, in particular, showing brilliant form. F. Sharp and G. Moriee, of tho gentlemen, had tho most admirers last evening, and their play certainly was fino. They should bo both hard to beat in the singles. The latter, who is a mero youth, placed his strokes with excellent judgment last evening, and lowored tho {colors of such oxporioneed players as Kane, Barlow, and Lyttolton. Poach, another young player, exorcised marvellous patience, and tho strokes of his opponents camo back over the not with elock-liko regularity and precision. Ho fairly wore down Miss Seymour in tho final. This ovening a commencement will bo mudo with tho singles, for which the following outries have boon received Ladies’ handicap singles, -18 ; gontlemou's handicap singles, 65 ; district championship : ladies, 12 ; gentlemen, 31; junior championship: girls, 4 ; boys, 18.
