Play had only commenced when a shower compelled a dolay of fifteen minutes. Palairot and Braund forced tho pace, scoring 50 in the first forty-fivo minutes. Palairot lifted ono to Gregory. One wicket tor 83. The partnership lastod 70 minutes. Braund was finely caught a few minutes later by Trumble in the slips with tho left hand. Braund was missed at 46 by Trumble. Two for 101.
Lewis and Hobson wero together after lunch. Noblo caught the latter in the slips. Three for 124. Lewis scored freely. Woods was caught by Kelly off Jones. Four for 104. Martyn joined Lewis, scoring tho first sixty runs put on in twenty-five minutes after lunch. Lowis was caught by Kelly, off Saunders. Five for 176. Gill rnado a couple of hits for five each, and then got out leg-before. Six for 186. Jones got Johnston’s wicket for nil nine runs later. Martyn and Hardy played vigorously. Tho latter was caught by Trumpcr at mid-on. Eight for 218. Tho hour’s cricket after lunch produced 102. Six wickets fell. Martyn, who was given a couplo ot chances, hit two sixes. Ho was dismissed by Trumble. Nine for 264. Nowtori was bowled by Armstrong. Cranfield was not out for two. Since lunch 156 runs woro put on, mado in ninoty minutes. Tho scores are:
