PING-PONG TOURNAMENT. ACADEMY OF MUSIC. COMMENCING MONDAY NEXT, the ‘2lst July. Jtci.ua of Play : 1. The player 3 shall toss for sides or servico before play commences. 2. The Server must hold the bat below the wrist and at the time the ball is struck the lowest part of the bat must not be higher than the level of the table, and tho Server must stand inside the lines represented by the continuance of the 9ides of the table. The Umpire shall upon any infringement of thia rule, whether appealed to or not by the Striker-out, call "No Service,’ 1 and upon " No Service ” being called against the Server twice consecutively the point shall be scored against him. , , ~ 3. If, when the Server serves, the ball strikes the net or the uprights and does not fall on the opposite side of the net, or if the , ball on being served fails to strike the surface of the tabic, the point shall count against the server ; but if the ball strike the net and falls on the opposite side thereof it shall be deemed a “ Net,” and neither side shall score the point. 4. The ball must be taken on the first bounce and must on no account be volleyed. 5. A player taking the ball on the full, either with bat or hand, shall have the point scored against him if in the opinion of the Umpire the ball would have struck tho table. C. If at any time during play the ball shall t trike the edge of the table and ricochet to the floor, the point snail count agaiußt the player failing to make the return. 7. A player shall not striko the ball more than once in making his stroke. 8. Each servico shall oonsist of five points, and at the end of every ten points the players shall change ends. 0. Players may use any class of bat they choose. . 10. The tables used shall be Oft in length by sft in width, with nets 6J inches high. 11. The games shall be counted by points, as under: — Teams competition... .20 points up. Otiumpionahips 50 ~ „ ' All other events 30 ~ „ 12. Players must be ready to play at the appointed time. Any player more than five minutes late may be disqualified. 13. The umpire’s decision shall be final on all questions of “ fact,” but an appeal will lie on points of " law” to the referee, whose decision thereon ahall be final. Players are requested to wear dark colors. Players will be admitted Free at the Side door onl Play begins at 8 o’clock sharp.
