QUEENSLAND’S TROUBLES.
A BIG DEFICIT. CIVIL SERVANTS TO BE THE VICTIMS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Brisbane, July 15. The Treasurer’s Financial Statement anticipates a deficit of .£257,788 as far as revenue is concerned. The Commonwealth legislation has proved disastrous to Queensland. It is proposed to meet the deficit by a special Retrenchment Bill, reducing Civil servants from 5 to 15 per cent,, a new totalisator tax, income tax, amended stamp duties, and port duties.
