ACADEMY OF MUSIC. COMMENCING MONDAY NEXT, the 21st July. Rules or Play : 1. The players shall toss for sides or service before play commences. 2. The Server must hold the bat below the wrist and at the time the ball is struck the lowest part of the bat must not be higher than the level of the table, and the Server must stand inside tho lines represented by the continuance of the sides of the table. The Umpire shall upon any infringement of this rule, whether appealed to or not by the Striker-out, call 11 No Service,” and upon “ No Service ” being called against the Server twice consecutively the point shall be scored against him. 3. If, when the Server serves, tho ball strikes the net or the uprights and does not fall on the opposite side of tho net, or if the ball on being served fails to strike the surface of tho table, the point shall count against the server ; but if the ball strike the net and falls on tho apposite side thereof it shall be deemed ad' Net,” and neither side shall score the point. 4. The ball must be taken on the first bounce and must on no account be volleyed. 5. A player taking the ball on the full, either with bat or hand, shall have the point scored against him if in the opinion of the Umpire the ball would have struok the table, 6. If at any time during play the ball shall strike the edge of tho table and ricochet to the floor, the point shall count against the player failing to make the return. 7. A player shall not strike the ball more than once in making his stroke. 8. Each servioe shall consist of five points, and at the end of every ten points the players shall ohange ends. 9. Flayers may use any olass of bat they choose. 10. The tables used shall be Oft in length by sft in width, with nets 6J inches high. 11. The games shall be counted by points, as under: — Teams competition... .20 points up. Championships 50 „ „ All other events 30 „ „ 12. Flayers must be ready to play at the appointed time. Any player more than five minutes late may be di.-qualified. 13. The umpire’s deoision shall be final on all questions of “ faot," but an appeal will lie on points of “ law” to tba referee, whose decision thereon shall be final. Players are requested to wear dark colors. Players will be admitted Free at the Side door only. Play begins at 8 o’clock sharp.
