HAWKE’S BAY EDUCATION BOARD.
| Special to Times. | Napier, last night. At the meeting of tho Education Board, the following business of interest to Gisborne was transacted: — Ormond School: Mr McLeod, of Canterbury, was appointed headmaster. Gisborne : Tho ground to he tilled in at Mangapapa School. An application for fencing was deferred. Parents complaining of delay in payment of scholarship money to be informed that payment will he made in accordance with the award of the Board.
Tolago Bay: Alterations to building to be proceeded with. PUPIL TEACIIKHS' EXAMINATION. The following arc the marks obtained by Poverty Bay candidates in the pupil teachers’ examination : First year: Beatrice Hallot, eighth, 713. Second year: Estella Cussen, fourth, 1060 ; Henry Morgan, fifth, 1050; Pearl Shaw, eighth, 1039. Third year: H. Bonson, first, 1076 ; Edith McDonald, seventh, 894; Charlotto Barker, tenth, 796. Fourth year: Daisy Ferguson,'fourth, 688 ; William Driller, 62; Jane McClure, 60 ; Grace Black, 53. The last three only sat for one subject each. RETIREMENT OE DR, SIDEY. The Chairman, the Rov. Dr. Sidey. who retires from tho Board, delivered an address. The services rendered by Dr. Sidey in tho cause of education generally were the subject of praiseworthy reference by members of tho Board, and tho following resolution was carried : “ That a special and hearty vote of thanks bo accorded to tho Rev. Dr. Sidey for his able and conscientious discharge of the duties of Chairman during his long term of office, and we regret that advancing yoars ani declining health should have necessitated his retiring from the Board, and we desire that this resolution be recorded on our minutes.”
