GISBORNE STEEPLECHASE MEETING'
Tho Gisborne Racing Club brought their Steeplechase meeting to a conclusion yesterday. The weather was fine, and tho attendance was extremely satisfactory, The races were run off well to time, and tho arrangements generally rellected great credit on the Club. The following are the results : Second Handicap Hurdle Race, 1$ miles, 94 D. Hepburn's b m Lady Raven, . by Lord Raven—Duadinc, 9.0, D. Wright 1 148 J. Clark’s br g Papatu, by Crackshot —Tamahine, 10.5, A. Williams ... ... ... ... 2 79 J. Reginald’s br g Hippowai, by Hippocampus—The Orphan, 9.10, Quinton 8 Hippowai fell at the second jump, and a great race resultod botwoon Papatu and Lady Raven. The latter drew away in tho run to the last hurdle, and being splendidly ridden by Wright, won in good style by two lengths, in the good time of 8.24. There were 821 investors and the dividend was £>) Is. Hunters’ Flat Race tTaudicap, 1J miles. 70 L. Mclntosh’s b g Bruiser, by Exchange Rosemary 12,2, McIntosh ... ... ... ... 1 89 J. 11. Colobourno’s b g SergeantMajor, by Monaco, 11.8, D. Evans 2 186 F. Rhodes’ eh g Telia, by Crackshot —Frivolity, 12.7, Griffiths ... 8 Also started—2B Morpeth, 29 Mangamahaki, 77 Ping-Pong, and 85 Falstone. Ping-Pong was first away, followed by Bruiser, Telia, and Sergeant-Major, but after tho first few furlongs had been traversed, Bruiser went to the front, and holding the lead to the post, won easily by a length from Sergoant-Major, Telia being third, Falstone fourth, Morpeth fifth, Mangamahaki and Ping-Pong in- tho order named. Time, 2.21 J-. There were 414 investors on the machine and tho dividends were H 3 19s and £2 7s.
To liapara Handicap, 7 furlongs. 170 J. A. Harding’s g m Tauhoi, b,y Castor Vivandiere, 10.12, C. Reidy 1 116 D. Hepburn’s b m Lady Raven, by Lord Raven—Duadine, 9.10, Wright 2 141 Mr G. Hirst’s eh g Daredevil, by Dreadnought Spot, 10.10, O. Gordon 8 Those were the only starters. Tauhei was quickly off the mark, and, holding the lead throughout, won easily by a length. Time, 1.85. There were 427 investors on the machine, and the dividend was £2 ss. Gisborne Park Steeplechase, about 3 miles. 74 F. Rhodes’ br g Cronje, by Hukatere—Missfiro, 6yrs, 9.7, Noble ... 1 204 Mr O'Sullivan's br g Straybird, by Wanderer—Fleetwing, aged, 11.2, Wright 2 202 F. F. B. Ross’s br g Hylas, by St. Hippo Cantiniero, 6yrs, 9.10, Quinton 8 Also started —46 Magpie, 66 Pullack, 14 liotiti. Cronje assumed command early in the race, and, running in good style, was able to stall off a strong challenge on the part of Straybird. Time, 6.43 1-5. There were 606 investors on the totalisotor, and the the dividends were JES 10s and 13s.
Hack Handicap, 7 furlongs. 169 J, A. Harding’s b f Soultina, by Soultina —Helen McGregor, Byrs, 9.12, Beady 1 86 L. Mclntosh’s b g Bruiser, by Exchange Bosemary, aged, 9.12, MacNatnara ... 2 163 W. Griffiths’ cb g Musketoon, by Musquetaire—Miss Dargon, aged, 9.0, Griffiths 3 Also started—l 3 Ikatero, 80 Waimana, 72 Sheolawee, 13 Bullfinch. Soultina came with a strong run from the distance, and won by a length. Time, 1 36. V. There were 596 investors on the machine, and the dividends were £2 7s and £1 11s. Tally-ho Steeplechase, about 21- miles. 191 Mr J. J. Groome’s b g Peter i Osbeck, by Hukatere, 11.2, MeGreevey 1 117 Mr Dan Barry’s ch g G. 8.0., by Strowan, 11.7, Evans 2 32 Mr W. Howard’s ch g Mangamahaki, by Craw-Priory—Emir Bey mare, 10.12, Hurst 3 Also started : 63 Majestic. Peter Osbeck assumed command soon after the start, and jumping well throughout won by a couple of lengths from G. 8.0. Time, 5.511. Div., 221 17s. Final Handicap, 1 mile. 174 F. Bbodes’ ch g A.8.N., by Crackshot—Moonstone, 10.7, Griffiths... 1 231 J. Clark’s br g Paris, by AlbertFlirt, 10.7, Williams ... ... 2 133 G. Hirst’s ch g Daredevil, by Dreadnought—Spot, 10.10. Noble 3 Also started : 17 Pmepiuetekura. From a good start Pincpinetekura and l’aria went to the front, followed by A.B.N. and Daredevil. At the home turn A.B.N. went to tbe front, and landed into the straight a length to the good of Daria, whilst half a length away came Daredevil. The Crackshot gelding had all the best of the run home, and won a good race by half a length from Paria, Daredevil being a length away third. Div., £2 17s.
