Hookey, 11. M. Porter, A. \V. Rees, W. Pettie, T. Adair, R. Robertson, W. A. Friar, C. H. Ambridge, T. Dalrymple, H. Smith,. J. Coleman, and J. R. Jones. Managing Committee : Messrs \V. Gault, G. R. Mcore, H. Williams, W. J. Green, PI. Biunie, P. Scbwabe, D. T. Hughes, J. Newton, M. Hall, W. Fraser, H. Parker, J. IL Ormond, G. Humphreys. Chairman ot Committee: Mr H. M. Porter ViceChairman : Mr W. J. Green. Auditor : Mr G. K. Pasley. Secretary and Treasurer : Mr \V. Ranger. Tiie Gisborne Poultry Fanciers Club ninth annual show commenced ycslerdav, in McFarlane’s Hall, and will lie continued until this evening. _ There is every prospect of the show being a success in every respect. That it is so in regard to tiie exhibits, no one can gainsay. That it. will be in regard to attendance is not to be doubted when the large number present yesterday afternoon and last evening is taken into account. The arrangements throughout are admirable, and tiie Secretary, Mr \i. Ranger, and the Committee desen e much praise for the satisfactory way in which every tiling lias been carried out. The weak point about the show this year, as in previous years, is- that the country people are not yet taking the interest in it they should ; and until that is remedied by a more enthusiastic spirit among our country settlers tiie Club will never he aide to do as effective work as it might easily do. On tiie other hand, tiie fanciers generally are still (uider a disadvantage in the matter of putting birds into the siiow in the best condition. Yet on tiie whole, tiie show is a great success from an exhibition point of view ; there is a first-class average quality of exhibits, with some specially good en-
tries among the number. There lire practically no exhibitors from outside districts oil this occasion, but the local entries are so much better as to constitute a record for Die Society. The chief prize-winners in game are E. O. Gault, D. 'l'. Hughes, P. Farmer! 11. M. Porter, and 11. Williams. In Dorkings Mr G. R. Moore had it all his own way. All tiie entries were made by him, and every one got a prize. In the clases for Orpingtons there was a, strong competition, tiie principal prize takers being W. J. Ilennessy, J. Medley, 11. E. Weston, It. Binnie, and 11, Williams. Except for a nice pullet exhibited by Mr Ilennessy, Mr G. R. Moore bad a clean sweep in classes for Langslians. U. Thomson was Die main prizetaker in Plymouth Rocks ; but Mr Binnie obtained a first and a special and bis other exhibits also obtained prizes'. The best competition! was in tiie class for liens, in which a fine Mini from Mr W. I)- Lysnar’s Okitii Dairy was 2nd. There was a very fine exhibition of Wyandottes, all tiie birds being really good. H. M. Porter had entries in four classes, and his score was three first prizes, one second, and two specials—a record to lie proud of where there was so much competition. Tiie otlier chief winners were R. C. Gault, W. J. Green, R. Bach, IL Williams. There was a splendid
show of Minorcas,, in which Mr F.- A. Ford was Die most successful. The oilier main prize-takers were G. R. Moore, J. E. Newton, and J' IL Hill. Tiie bird that attracted Die most admiration of Die show was tiie magnificent black Minorca cockerel shown by Mr F. A. Ford. Tiie bird stands out in a prominent way among a large number of other exhibits, and lias been admired by large throngs of people. The bird seems to know that he is” there to lie admired, and struts around in the pen and regards tiie onlookers in a most condescending fashion, as if lie were an aristocrat of tiie highest order, as he certainly is of his class in. the feathered tribes. A very nice pullet shown by Master Reggie Ford has taken a well-deserved third prize out of a large entry. Tn Leghorns there is a wide distribution of prizes, while 11. Binnie and E. C. Gault take the
majority, with IT, I\l. Porter close up, having specials as well as firsts. Tiie other main prize-winners are '.J. E. Newton, J.- Muir, Mrs W. D. Lysnar, Jr 11. Ormond, 11. 11. Faram, and W. A. Sawyer. In ,Spanish Mr Moore's entries again cleared everything.- In Andalusians there was- a better show. All the entries received prizes, Mr M. I-lall, Mr C. Francis, and Mr TO. C. Fairlie being the most successful. In Ilambiirgs W. Jeans, 'J. E. Newton, E. C. Gault, and W. Pettie were the
thief prize-winners. Jn Polish •) ti. Ormond took two specials and two firsts, as well as a second.. H. M. Porter ohtained tir-i prize both tor the cockerel and pullet in any variety not otherwise enumerated, as well as numerous prizes in the other classes, such as ducks. The prize for best male bird in the show was awarded to a splendid drake exhibited by 11. M Porter : a Plymouth Rock hen. shown by C. Thomson -mined tin- prize for the best female bird, while IP Binnie secured the prize for the best local bred cockerel. In the breeding pen classes 11. Binnie obtained lir>t prize, as he also did in the .selling classes. Prizes for pigeons went niainlv to (!. R. Moore and Master T. Jlemiessy, R. .Johnston and O. R. Moore having it their own way with canaries. Among the interesting exhibits is: a tuatura lizard : it was kindly sent in bv Mr Barton. PRIZE LIST. POULTRY. Game : Black red, lien : D. T.
