It is feared that as many as three hundred have perished. The foreman of the mine and his assistant and two lire bosses have perished. They lost their lives in attempting tu rescue some of the entombed men. The entrance to the mine was rendered impassable by the explosion^ A number managed to escape from the mincj The survivors effected their escape by an opening live miles away.
