THE COMMONWEALTH.

THE ILLUMINATIONS LAST NIGHT. By Tel. graph—Tress Association—Copyright Sydney, July 10. The various State capitals are to-night carrying out the postponed Coronation illuminations. The demonstration is popularly accepted more in the shape of rejoicing” at the King’s recovciy. The display is noi on a lavish scale, the Government eilort being confined to the principal Federal and some State build- | ings. The chief features in Sydney aro the Post-office and Customs house. The former is a maguitieent spectacle. The tower is festooned from base to summit with thousands oi' fairy arc lamps. In the Moore scictt frontage there are scrolls of colored lamps, giving the design, in immense letters, “ The Commonwealth's Greeting—Long Live tho King." Tno Customs house has a fino effect fronting the harbor. Tho Town ITall and Redfern railway station made ft good show. A few banks, tho large business firms, and all tho newspaper offices were tastefully illuminated. Some of the most artistic dcsigus most prevalent wero crowns and the Kings’s monograms, but, unlike tho Commonwealth celebrations, the great majority make no show. As far as Sydney is concerned, there is no* a groat deal of interest. Tho unsettled weather is also an adverse factor. There is little more than tho usual crowd in tho streets.
