The match was continued in tine weather, and the wicket was good. The attendance was fair. Darling failed to add to his overnight score, Santa!! howling him with his second ball. Four for 182. Noble knocked np 23, and retired leg-before to Hargreaves. His partnership with Gregory, who was steadily increasing his score, tasted thirty minutes, and added 12 runs to the total. Five for 221. Gregory was next to go, and played Hargreaves on. He was two hours at the wicket, and compiled 83 with faultless cricket. His score included nine tourers. Six for 233. Hopkins was smartly caught in the field at second-slip when ho had made 33. Seven for 263. Carter’s lively cricket was characterised by good cutting. He was bowled by Charlesworth. Eight for 312. Jones added a single run. and was then put out. Nine for 313. Saunders, the last man, failed to score. Armstrong, who went in eighth, adopted careful tactics. Congratulations to the team are pouring in from Australians in England on the victory at Sheffield, including ono cablegram from Sydney and ono from Adelaide. The Australians during tbo morning visited Mr Chamberlain’s Ilighburg Estate, and inspected the hothouse collections of orchids. Thoy wired to Mr Chamberlain happy returns of his birthday to-day. Hopes wore expressed for his speedy recovery. The private secretary replied, convoying Mr Chamberlain’s thanks for tho kind telegram, and stating that ho Is progressing favorably.
