KAITI ROAD BOARD.
Tho ordinary moeting of the Kaiti Road Board was held last evening. Present : Messrs J. A. Harding (chairman), P. Harris, B. Craill, and F. Bull. Tho County Council wrote applying for payment of the sum of ,£4 4s, being the cost of labor employed by tho Council to fill up tho large drain cut by tho Kaiti Board on tho Wainui road. In regard to tho Kaiti Esplanade road, the Chairman said that the matter had been before the Borough Council, and it had been decided that the Borough Overseer should consult with tho Kaiti Board Overseer as to the cost of tho work, The County Council had also been asked to contribute, also tho Wbatuupoko Boad Board. Mr Harding said that the matter would come before tho Council meeting on Tuesday next. The Overseer said that he had not seen the Borough Overseer. Ho saw in the newspapers that a report had been sent in to the Council, wherein the Overseer recommended that tho road should be lowered. He (the Kaiti Overseer) did not agree in this course being adopted.
OWEN ROAD DRAIN. Mr Harris said that the question of the Owen road drain was likely to prove a serious one for the Board, and he thought that they should open out the old course, and get the water away. The Chairman said that it would not do for the water to be turned on to properties in the vicinity. They could not at present undertake a permanent work. The Overseer suggested that tho water should be taken across the hard side of the road and into the river. Half a chain of good grouting would be sufficient. They might also get over tho difficulty by means of fascines and willow planting. Tho Chairman and Mr Bull thought that that was a very low estimate, tho former remarking that he was of opinion that it would cost more like j 660. If it could be done for the amount stated, he thought the Board might stretch a point, and do the work. The Overseer said that there had been trouble with tho drain before the last fresh.
Mr Bull said that it was a bad time of tho year to do the work. Ho suggested that it should be left for a time. Mr Harris suggested that Mr D. McLeod should also be asked to report on the matter. It was a difficult job. Mr Bull moved that the matter bo deferred for a fortnight, the Overseer in the meantime to plant willows and put fascines to protect the bank. The motion was carried, it being also agreed that if tho damages increased a special meeting should bo called to consider the matter. In regard to Mr E. J. Chrisp’s account of £'29 9s, tho Chairman said that Mr Bull and himself had waited upon Mr Chrisp, who agreed to take £25 in full settlement, and that amount had accordingly been paid.—Agreed to. Mr Harris pointed out that thoro wero several bad holes near tho culvert in Darwin road, and it was decided that the Overseer bo instructed to attend to this. The Overseer said that the Board should acknowledge the services ronderod by Messrs Kennedy and Evans and Mr W. D. Lysnar, who had at their own expense put in good crossings leading to their paddocks. Mr Bull complimented both gentlemen mentioned above on the excellent culverts they had put in, and tho expense they had gone to. It was also decided to write to Mr T. Brosnahan requesting that a crossing should be made at the entrance to his property. The usual resolutions dealing with the Board's overdraft were adopted. It was decided to make a temporary footpath in Hirini street, for the convenience of residents there.
