LATE COAST NEWS.

WEATHER ON THE COAST,

Our Waipiro correspondent telegraphed last evening : —" The weather here is very wet, and a heavy gale from the south also sprang up this evening. The Omapero had some difficulty in working, but fortunately all cargo was landed beforo the gale oamo on. Tho steamer is at present at Port Awanui this evening.”

FOOTBALL,

The return football match Waipiro v. Tokomaru will be played on Saturday at Mr Williams’ Takapau station. The Waipiro team is as follows Fullback, Painter; three-quarters, Fox, Te Parata, Hinemaru ; five-eighth, Bailey ; half, C. Paerata ; forwards, Warren, Tuekwell, Johnston, Grace, Manuel, Campbell, Hauriri, Smith, H. Wilson, Emergencies—Tauheni, Farr, Gerrard, Judas, Hara, White.

PERSONAL,

From our Waipiro correspondent we learn that Mr and Mrs Armstroug left by the Omapore yesterday, for their new homo at Kawhia. Mr Armstrong has beon engaged as a contractor on the East Coast for the last fifteen years, and he now intends to go in for farming. With this purpose in view, ho has secured a nice holding in the Kawhia district. Both Mr and Mrs Armstroug have tho best wishes of settlers on the Coast for their future success.

Mr Boyd, of Port Awanui, is at present visiting Gisborne. He states that the Coast roads are at present in a frightful state, the Tokomaru Hill being as bad as he has ever seen it.

Mr J. S. Johnstone, travelling representative of Messrs Mackey, Logan, Steen, and Co., of Auckland, was at Port Awanui yesterday, oil his was down the Coast.

The East Coast branch of the Farmers’ Union is likely to becomo a strong body, and the membership is rapidly increasing. Mr A. G. Halo is tho energetic secretary, and he is sparing no efforts to popularise the movement.
