A SHIP DESTROYED.
EXPLOSION AND EIRE.
TEN DAYS IN THE BOATS
(Per Press Association), AUCKLAND, last night. Honolulu news states that the ship 'Fanny Kerr, bound fiom Newcastle to San Francisco, on Way 27 was HOD miles north-west of Kauai, near Hawaii, when an explosion occurred in the hold.
All attempts to suppress the lire which followed failed.
On May 29 a terrific explosion occurred, and flames shot from the hold and fired the sails and rigging. The deck became so hot that the men could not stand on it.
Three boats were provisioned, and left the ship. One leaked so badly that it was soon abandoned, the captain's boat taking her crew.
The men were eight days out of sight of land, and (wo days later they landed at Nuabau. The crew were much -exhausted, and had nothing to eat for two days. The fire is attributed to spontaneous combustiom
