VESSEL IN DISTRESS.

TOWED TO RUSSELL BY ARCHER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Russell, yesterday. H.V.S. A' her has just towed into this port the Ardencraig, Captain Ritchie, from New Caledonia to Rottendam, loaded with nickel ore. The vessel left for the former port on June 6th. On the 18th inst. the maintop backstays carried away. The main and mizzen topmasts, with the yards and running gear, then came down. One of the lifeboats was smashed. A heavy sea was running at the time, but this moderated, and enabled the vessel to make the New Zealand coast. The Archer picked her up this morning, between Cape Brett and the Poor Knights.
