PALMERSTON NORTH.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Palmorston North, last night. In spite of the fact that the day was wet and miserable and that all Coronation ceremonies were postponed, a large number of country people and school children came into town. The school-ohildren were supplied with the food intended for the Coronation luncheon, the remainder of the eatables being divided between the Charitable Aid Board and the poor. In the afternoon, an impressive service of prayer and intercession was held in the Theatre Royal. It was conducted by the Protestant clergy, and was largely attended, the service being devoutly followed by those present. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance was continued hero to-day. The balance-sheet showed the income from subscriptions to be £lOll 2s lOd; proceeds of meetings, £769 7s 7d ; sales of literature, £6B 10s 5d ; total, £1849 Os lOd. The expenditure amounted to £2069 19s 7d. The election of officers resulted : President, Mr A. S. Adams. Messrs A. R. Atkinson, M.H.R., and Hoby were elected Alliance representatives on the Executive. A resolution was passed, expressing regret at the deaths of the Revs. Wills, Wood, and Ward, and Messrs George Grant and H. C. M. Watson. On the motion of Mr T. J. Bull, Auckland, it was resolved : “ That this Convention expresses its conviction that the liquor difficulty in the King country cannot be satisfactorily dealt with until clause 33 of the Licensing Act of 1895 is made applicable to that area, and again prefers its request to the Government that this clause be so applied.”
