GOLD EETUENS.

Auckland, last night. The gold returns for the Auckland district for the past three weeks are not complete.*; Owing to the absence from the list of several representative companies' outputs the total reached £16,880. This brings the total to date for the present year to £313,694. For the corresponding period last year the output was £267,833. A EECOED PASSAGE. Tho mail steamer Sonoma, which arrived at San Francisco at 11 a.m. on Sunday from Auckland, has made a record voyage, she being 29 hours ahead of contract time. The steamer has averaged over 16 knots per hour all the way. A SUICIDE. A man named Pitavy, a miner from the Upper Thames district, committed Buicide at Auckland this evening by jumping from a window on the first floor of the Victoria Hotel to tho pavement, a distance of about 16 feet. He is supposed to have had delusions that ho was not in good health, though a doctor pronounced him healthy. AUCKLAND’S SYMPATHY.

At a meeting of the City Council to" night the Mayor, after expressing doop regret at the King’s illness, moved that the Council desire to express regret at the news of the illness of the King of so serious a nature as to necessitate a postponement of the Coronation. The Council prays the Almighty to speedily restore the KiDg to full health and strength to reign for many - years. The resolution was carried, the Governor to bo requested to send the motion to the King. TECHNICAL SCHOOL. At tho Board of Education the appointment of Mr George Grey as director of the technical school was decided upon, a oable to be sent Home to that effect.
