DUNEDIN NEWS.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night. The Agricultural Conference resolved that Government be asked to introduce a Bill making it compulsory ior local bodies to deal with the small birds nuisance. The draft Bill was then considered and discussed. A clause providing that if an injurious bird hatched young within a radius of ton chains of a residence the occupier was liable to a penalty, was expunged. The question of bringing the Bill into operation in tho North Island provoked a good deal of discussion. Eventually, on tho motion of Mr Ritchie, it was decided that the North Island members, while adopting tho principle of the Bill, it should apply only to such districts in the North as might adopt it. At tho annual meeting of tho New Zealand Dairy Association, Mr James Mills was re-elected president. Mr John Barrett was elected in Canterbury as representative on the committee. Tothill, -Watson, and Co. wrote, contending that the principle of having a buyer and exporter as secretary wa6 not right. The President thought the Association could manago its own affairs, and a motion was passed expressing confidence in the action on tho part of Mr J. It. Scott, secretary. A motion was passed in favor of meetings of factory managers and others interested at tho grading ports, to see tho system of grading. Many who thought they had a grievance against the grading system, on looking into the matter, and seeing the graders at work, had changed their opinion, c It was resolved that the mooting considor 2i per cent as a correct allowance for shrinkage on cheese six months old for export.
