RAILWAY AGITATION.

CONTRAST WITH THE MOTU. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. A large and representative gathering was held undor the auspices of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce to-day, to urge the Government to complete the Waipara-Cheviot section of railway, which has been partly constructed. The speakors stated that the Cheviot settlers were under disabilities in not being able to get produce and stook to market readily, as the port is not a good one, and time and money would be saved if the goods oould be trained to Christchurch. A motion was passed that in view of the largo amount of money spent on the construction of tho Waipara-Cheviot section of tho main trunk line, tho Government be urged to complete the lino as expeditiously as possible, and that provision be mado on the estimates next session.
