BAD CHARACTERS ABOUT, UNSAFE TO BE OUT AT NIGHT. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, last night. A reference has been filed in the dispute between the Saddlers’ Harness and Collar-makers’ Union and the Master Saddlers, It is to come before the Conciliation Board. Charles Ilenderich was committed for - trial at the Police Court on a charge of breaking and entering the Caledonia Hotel and stealing money from tlie till. The man had evidently secreted ■ himself about the house, and after the occupants had retired he broke open tiie till, and made bis way out of the hotel.
It was stated by,' Sub-Inspector Dwyer at the Police Court to-day tiiat there had been recently an inllux of undesirable characters, and it was not safe for decent females to be out at night unprotected.
The Bench sentenced two Lieu charged with vagrancy and being associates of reputed thieves to cliree months’ hard labor. A bicycle thief was sentenced to six months,’ and two women! for being unlawfully on pet:• mises at night, to three months.
