FLOODS IN MANAWATU

NEARLY UP TO 1897 MARK. Ry Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, last night. It has been raining hard here for the last twenty-four hours, and there was no sign of a break at 11 p.m. All the local streams are flooded. The Manawatu river is within a foot of the Easter flood of 1897. The country districts all report inundations. The Pohangina river is also in very high flood. No particulars of any damage have yet reached here, but the flood must prove serious in the Lower Manawatu. No interference with the railway traffic in this district was reported to-day.
