SUSPICIOUS FIRE.
NELLIE’S STORY ABOUT MRS SNOOKS. STARTLING STATEMENTS, (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night, At the Magistrate’s Court an inquest on the fire at the Blackhorse Hotel was held this morning. Insurance claims had been made for £650. Nellie Griffin, a servant at the hotel, said that Mrs Snooks, the owner of the hotel, went away to Wellington just after she bought tlie hotel* eight months ago. She was away three weeks', and took silver plate, etc., with her. On her return from Wellington sacks containing dressmaking things were sent away from the hotel. Mrs Snooks paid another visit to Wellington, leaving the house at twenty minutes past eight on the night of the fire. A few* days afterwards she told witness that if anything occurred in the way of fire to escape by the window.
Later.—The inquiry into the Blackhorse Hotel fire hag been adjourned till June 27,
