AUSTRALIANS V. CAMBRIDGE.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, June 9. The match against Cambridge University commenced to-day with showery weather. The wicket was slow. The attendance was meagre. Darling, Noble, Saunders, and Howell were omitted from the Australian team, Trumble playing for the first time since his accident. Dr Popo, of Sydney, who went to England with the Australians, completed the team. The University secured first use of the wicket, Ebben and Gilman facing the bowling of .Jones and Trumble. The latter soon got to work, and clean bowled Gilman. One wicket for 13. Eight runs later Harper skied Trumble, and was caught by Carter. Two for 21. Dowson joined Ebben, who was playing steadily. The newcomer made free wish the bowleis, Jones especially proving expensive. Trumble was difficult to play. AVith the score at 04 Dowson got leg-before to Trumble. Three for 04. Penn succeeded, and had totted up three when he was caught by Carter. Four for 62. Ebben livened up, playing in good form. At the luncheon adjournment the score stood four for 74, Ebben with 50, and Blaker 5. The scores are:—

Ebben’s time had now come, a long and useful innings being ended by Carter stumping him. Tho innings, which lasted two hours and twenty minutes, closed for 108. AVilson, b Trumper ... ... 2 Driffield, b Trumper 0 AVintor, not out 4 Sundries... ... I Total 108 Bowling analysis: Jones, nil for 23; Trumble, throe for S 3; Armstrong, one for 21; Trumper, five for 19. After delay owing to the rain, Trumper and Duff wont to the wickets. The latter, after a free innings, was well caught by F. AVilson in the slips. One wicket for 49. Trumper and Hill punished the bowling freely, and played until the call of time. The weather was showery. The scores -wore : Trumper, not out ... 27 Duff, cF. AVilson, bE. AVilson ... 32 Hill, not out 25 Noble is at Brighton recuperating. Darling and Howell aro in London, confined to bed with influenza.
