Attempted Murder.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.). Russell, last night,

Yesterday Takariki Kaupeka was charged, before Mr Bloomfield, S.M., that ho did on January 28, at Waikare, attempt to murder Agnes Tanui, a Native woman with whom be had been living, b.y shooting at her with a revolver. Prisoner pleaded guilty, and was committed for trial at the next session of tho Supremo Court at Auckland. It came out in evidence that Kaupeka had not been near Whangaruru since he left thero on the night of January 29. He walked through to Auckland, arriving there on February 2nd, and from there went to Waikato, Rotorua, Napier, Wellington, Christchurch, and other places. He then decided to corno back, and arrived at Whangaruru on May 26. He came to Russell on tho 28th and surrendered to Constable Pardy. Evidently all the reports were fa'se with regard to bis being seon at different places close to Whangaruru.

lington, Napier, Christchurch, and other places. He then decided to go back. This was evidently all false, he being seen at different places close to Whangaruru.
