Lougher. Votes of thanks were accorded to the following ladies and gentlemen for their efforts to make the affair a success : Mr and Mrs McClure, Mr and Mrs D. Reid, Mr H. Lougher (Chairman), and members of ’the Committee. A special vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Joseph Cooper, as being the originator of tho concert, which had been brought to such a successful issue. The thanks of the Committee are due to all who so liberally subscribed to the funds. Mr Edward’s gift of evergreens for decorative purposes was most highly appreciated.
The usual weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union was held last evening, Mr Miller presiding. Several plaj’ers were added to the lists of tho various olubs and passed. An application was received from the Ivaiti-Uity Club to reinstate a player as a junior. Granted on usual conditions. The protest from the Huia Club against awarding last Saturday's match to West End was then con'sidered. The protest set forth that the latter olub played a player, viz., Wells, when ho had not qualified. It was clearly shown that Wells had not properly qualified in accordance with the Union's byelaw governing such cases. This being so, members expressed the opinion that whilst the West End Club had played Wells in good faith the bye-laws must be upheld, and it was therefore resolved that the protest bo sustained and the match awarded to Huia. Mr A. W. Rees was appointed referee for. next Saturday's senior match (West End v. Haiti-City), and Mr J. Webb for the junior match.
