Dr Em ly Siedeberg is (.he only lady physician in Dunedin. By the trap accident she had three ribs broken and sustained contusions about the body, painful but not serious. Peter Murray, aged 60 years, drove nto a baker’s cart on Tuesday n ght, aL Hooper’s Inlet, Otago Peninsula, and fractured several ribs. Inflammation set in and lie died yesterday. An inquest will be held. HOKITIKA, Saturday - A combined meeting of citizens and the Borough Council resolved to spend £‘loo in celebrating the Coronation, of that amount £350 to be devoted to a permanent memoriah It is proposed to add a clock tower to the war memorial now under way, if possible introducing chimes. To put the scheme into effect will involve the sum of £IOOO, of which about £750 is now iii sight. Negotiations for the resumption of Diedrich’s estate, of 5000 acres, at Kokatahi, have so far advanced that'the Land Purchase Board now recommend the resumption of 1700 acres, the balance of 3300 acres being left to the Diedrich family. The case was to have come before the Court on the 20th, and extensive. preparations were being made by the Crown and Diedrich’s for the conduct of the respective sides. A number of experts and land valuers who had been inspecting the country were recalled to-day* and it is now expected that the matter will be adjusted onthe recommendation of the Commissioners.
AUCKLAND, Saturday., An old age pensioner named John Boyd was found shot in the chest last night outside his whare at Hobsonville. A revolver was found alongside him. Deceased was a gumdigger, and lived alone. It is supposed to be a case of suicide. DANNEVIRKE, Saturday. The Coronation Celebrations Committee last night decided to request the Borough Council to vote a sum for the erection of swimming baths as a permanent memorial in commemoration of the Coronation. HAWERA, Saturday. Arthur Keith and William Harvey, charged with robbery with violence were committed to trial to-day. FEILDING, Saturday. Mr Cope intends erecting a creamery on his property at Kimbolton road, near Feilding, to lie ready in September. Substantial support lias been guaranteed.
WELLINGTON, Saturday. The Chief Justice granted divorces to-day in the cases of Mary Ann Stephenson v. J z P. Stephenson, Ann Sampson v. J. Sampson, Thomas Clapham v. Agnes Clapham, and Harold Sidaie, corespondent. The barque Jessie Osborne, the cargo of which was on lire at the wool wharf some weeks ago, sailed for London last night. It transpires that on Thursday night what is considered to be a deliberate attempt to set fire to the vessel was made as she lay in the stream. CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. At a meeting of the Pharmaceutical Association a resolution was carried that it be a recommendation to the pharmaceutical chemists of Christchurch and suburbs to discontinue forthwith the giving of prescription books to medical practitioners, and that a copy of the resolution be sent to the Medical Association.
