SUBURBAN HOTEL LICENSE.
[By Telegraph— Press Association]. Wellington, last night. When an application for a license for the new building erected at Newtown oame before the Suburbs Licensing Committee to day, counsel for the objectors expressed the opinion that one of the tnembei'3 of the Bench (Mr Cudby), who was father in-law to the applicant, should not hear the case. The Chairman said they would leave the question to Mr Cudby, and that gentleman retired, fol lowed by another member, who said that if Mr Cudby wont ho would not sit. There was thus no quorum, and the matter had to be adjourned for a week.
A FIRE. Two l ouses at Wadestown, occupied by Messrs Benson and Towers respectively, have been destroyed by fire. Benson’s house was insured for £175, and the furniture for £BS. Towers’ premises and furniture were uninsured. RIFLE CLUBS.
Up to May 9ih the services of 91 defence rifle clubs had been accepted. These clubs have 3000 members. HOSPITAL.
The trustees of the Wellington Hospital have decided to purchase the Glassworks property adjoining the hospital grounds for £'2125.
