LATE COAST NEWS.

SECOND TELEPHONE LINE. Residents on the Coast will be interested to hear that the eroction of the duplicate telephone line from Gisborne to Tokomaru Bay is now under course of construction. This will boa great convenience to business men and others, and should tend to facilitate Coastal communication. It should also in a great measure obviate the necessity of subscribers having to wait a lengthy period before they can be. connected with Coastal bereaus. WEATHER ON COAST.

Our Waipiro correspondent telegraphed last evening “ The weather is very cold and dry, the wind being from the west, in the direction of Mount Hikurangi, which is covered with snow. The roads are in good order.” AWANUI COURT.

The sitting of tho Magistrate’s Court at Awanui has been fixed for Monday, 16th inst. PEACE CELEBRATIONS.

Reports from our Coastal correspondents show that the announcement of peace was received with tho samo amount of joy and festivities in Coastal townships as it was in Gisborne. Bells were rung, and a good deal of shooting was indulged in. At Waipiro on receipt of the telegram the school children sang tho National Anthem, and wero afterwards granted a holiday in honor of tho occasion. Work for the day was suspended in all the Coastal townships, and the occasion was made one of great rejoicing.

PERSONAL. Mr H. Wallace, travelling representative of the firm of Messrs L. D. Nathan and Co., Auckland, passed through Waipiro yesterday, en routo for Gisborne. Mr Cox, surgeon dentist, of Gisborne, was at Waipiro yesterday, and will reach Tuparoa to day.

THE OMAPERE. The Union Co.’s steamer Omapere will leave for Coastal ports and Auckland at 5 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. She will work Tolago on Saturday morning.

ACCOMMODATION for TRAVELLERS,

Residents of the East Coast and the travelling public are notified that the British Empire Hotel, Peel street, Gisborne, will bo opened for business on Saturday morning. Visitors to town can rely on obtaining excellent accommodation, and no efforts are being spared by the management to make the hotel a firstclass one.
