Yorkshire. Jackson was dismissed in the fourth over without scoring. Four wickets for 49. Hirst got leg before after hitting a dozen. Taylor was scoring slowly. Five for 69. The pitch was treacherous. 9 c bowling of Noble was fine. Wash ington was bowled off his pad. Taylor
had a life at nine, and was caught oil short-leg by Darling off Noble. Six fui 77. Haigh was taken at the wickets by Kelly. Seven for SO. Lord Hawke was caught at the slips by Armstrong. Eight for 83. Taylor gradually in creased his total, and his partnership with Rhodes produced 22, when the latter was caught at short leg by Trumper. Nino for 107. Immediately alter, Tay lor, who had been an hour aud a half at the wickets, with a skilful innings, was j bowled by Noble. Total 107 Howell took six wickets for 63, Jones none for 17, Noble four 30. Duff and Trumper commenced the second innings of the Australians, the former being caught off Hirst at the ourth ball by Jackson at short-leg, with .mt scoring. One for nil. Hirst’s third over was fatal to Trumper, taking lis off stump. Two for 7. On resuming after the luncheon adjournment, Hill and Gregory partnered, liil) got a single, and was then stumped by Hunter. Three for 10. Disaster followed disaster on the treacherous ground. Darling got a single, and then played Hirst on. The fifth wicket fell for 20, and the balance fell for an additional three.

An hour’s play sufficed for Yorkshire to put together the 47 runs required to win at the loss of five wickets. Brown and Tunnicliffe were the first to bat. Howell dismissed the former with a catch off Noble. One wicket for 9. Howell then clean bowled Tunnicliffe. Two wickets for 19. Denton and Taylor carried the total to 25, a nice catch by Gregory ending Denton’s oareer. Three wickets for 25. Jackson came next, but the partnership was dissolved by Noble finding Taylor’s timber. Four for 39. The fifth wicket fell with 41 up, Kelly catching Jackson off Howell. Washington joined Hirst, who had not broken his duck. Tho now-comer quickly put on the finishing touches, hitting Howell to square-leg for four and driving Noble for five, thus bringing up the 50. Howell and Noble bowled unchanged. Yorkshire won by five wickets. The following were the scores:—
