A Masterton resident (says tbe Age) was recently in need of a sitting of eggs for a brooding hen, but, as new-laid eggs were worth about two shillings per dozen it was decided to try a cheaper quality. Preserved eggs were, therefore, substituted, and the result is now a fine healthy brood of chickens.
The King now drives nearly everywhere by motor car. The curfew bell iB still tolled nightly at Alnwick. An English convict gets 101 b bf bread a week, a pauper 71b only.
