dertake survey work of mining areas on the West African Gold Coast. Those selected will he engaged for two years, and will work eight months each year and go on furlough to England during the rainy season, me imperial Government paying half their passage money. IMPRESSIVE OBSEQUIES, AUCKLAND, Saturday*. The funeral of the late Queen of Tonga was most imposing. The coffin was carried to the grave under a canopy held by one hundred natives. The King followed in his Royal rones, also the British Consul, Mr Hunte, and the Prime Minister, Mr Sartac. The line of route was lined by college students. The service was read by native priests. The Revs. Watkins and Moulton spoke. The attendance of natives was small, owing to the unpopularity of the King’s choice of marriage amongst a section or the community.

THE SLIMES ROBBERY^ THAMES, Saturday,; To-day, Cyril Douglas Finn and James Edgar were committed to trial.
