The Rev. W. Gillies arrived by the Waikare on Saturday morning, to conduct the New Century fund mission in connection with the Presbyterian Church.
Major Winter left for the South by the Te Anau yesterday. ‘ We are informed that the popular Mr C. H. Ferris, jun., is the purchaser af Mr G. Williams business, and not the ref.pecteu Captain Ferris. The ■ sale was conducted by Mr T. "G. Lawless, land and commission agent-.* Mr Mackrell, of the firm" of Messrs Mackrell and Colley, left Gisborne on Saturday morning on a visit to Auckland.
Mr S. McLernon, a member of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, arrived in Gisborne on Saturday morning.
Trooper Ilurrey arrived from South Africa, via the South on Saturday. Mr and Mrs James Maefarlane, who are about to make a visit to Canada and the United States, leave Gisborne on Saturday next. Mr Cooke, of Messrs Cooke ax.i Buddie, of Auckland, was a through passenger by the Waikare on Saturday morning, and came ashore for a couple of hours.
Mr P." W. Douglas, of the Coastal Steamship Company’s staff (Auckland) was a through passenger by the Waikare on Saturday morning, and spent a couple of hours ashore. During his holiday he had been for a trip up the Wanganui river, and had also viewed the New Plymouth gardens and other beauty spots. He was warm in his praise of the work being done in Gisborne by the Beautifying Association. At the Poverty Bay Cltib on Saturday there was a pleasing ceremony, Mr John Holmes, manager of Kio're station, being presented with a watch and chain by >lr P. T. Kenway on behalf of the Kiore Sheepfarming Company.
Mr A. H. Wall, of Waerenga-o-fcnri, shortly proceeds on a visit to England. He leaves Gisborne next Saturday and takes a berth by the Runic from Sydney. Mr E. P. Joyce left for the South by the Te Anau yesterday, having received the sad news of the death of his sister.
Mr J. R. Redstone, of Gisborne, has had the compliment- paid him of being sent for from Wellington to act- as valuator for the Wellington City Council in the dispute between the Corporation and Captain Popham in regard to the latter’s stables. Mr Redstone left for Wellington yesterday.
