WHATAUPOKO ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Whautaupoko Road Board was held yesteri day at the office of the Secretary, Mr Gumming. There were present : Tho Chairman (Mr A. !•'. Matthews) and Messrs Lysnar and Hamon, Messrs F. A. Martin and G, A. Beere wrote requesting that Upper Fox street, Russell street and Richardson Avenue, surrounding and adjacent to their properties, should have early attention- The Chairman said that the drains were now being attended and tho holes should be filled up at an early 'date. On the motion of Mr Lysnar, it was agreed that the holes should be (filled up as soon as possible. G. Id. Beere wrote, complaining of the “ disgraceful ” state of the road leading to the writer’s property. The Chairman said the only tiling lie could see that they might do was to metal the road, which would cost £27 or thereabouts, and the road only led to tlie one residence. Mr Lysnar said they could not spare the funds to metal the road. The Chairman said that there were much worse roads, such as Wi Pere street, where there were many residents. It was resolved that Mr Lysnar and the Chairman inspect the road to see if anything within reach

of the Board’s means could lie done to remedy the cause of complaint.

Tiie Town Clerk wrote stating that •the Council would contribute towards the gravelling of Stout street footpath, as requested by the Board. The Chairman said that the work should be put in hand at once ; it would cost about £l6. It was agreed that the Chairman should obtain prices from tne different carters and have the work put in hand, the metalling to he done near Mr Garrett’s, place .to he carried out)

at the same time. It was resolved, on the motion of the Chairman, to have a culvert put in near Mr Lysnar’s gate. Mr Lysnar undertook to provide the culvert if the Board had the work done' Mr lan Simson wrote asking that at-

tention be given to the road leading to his place. The Chairman said that only a few loads of gravel would he re-

quired, and it was decided to have the work done.

Mr J. Fisher, poundkeeper, 'wrote, asking for an increase of his report he staled that during "the month he had impounded fourteen head of stock, and it was estimated that in that month he would receive about £3 19s.

Among other matters the Inspector said that pigs were kept near Ormond road, and lie thought that that should not be allowed, now that the district was becoming so thickly populated. In regard to the railway reserve, the

Chairman said that it was a gazetted road. Discussion ensued as to the sanitary questions, and it was decided to give 48 hours’ notice to people who were so offending, and to hand over to the solicitors the names of those who did not comply. A list of the new buildings erected in the district had been prepared, and the value was estimated at- £5320. Mr J. M. Cumming was appointed Treasurer. It was'decided that several persons he written to asking them to have overhanging branches of trees cut down, On a ballot being taken the retiring members of the Board next year were drawn as Mr Lysnar and Captain Ferris. __________
