[By Telegraph—Press Association]. Ohristchqrcb.last night. At the annual meeting of the C.J.C. the President, Sir G. Clifford, stated that the Club was in a very satisfactory condition. He deprecated the decadenco of racing in small centres in Canterbury. He suggested that the Metropolitan Club encourage managers of small meetings to improve sport. He drew a comparison between the present day and the time when Sir Modred and Tasman won their laurels. Mr T. Teschemaker spoke strongly against the tendency to introduce short distanco races. Ho said that it had the effect of deteriorating horses, as those that ran short distances were no good for anything else.
