The Suffolk farmers are waging ruthless war on sparrows. Since the formation of a club at Wickham Market for the extermination of this pest, over 8500 birds have bitten the dust. Of the fourteen ladies who took doctors decrees at one or other of the German Universities last year, eight were Americans and only six Germans. Not more than 35 wild buffaloes now remain of the millions that formerly roamed over the plains of the West, states a report presented to the United States Senate. In Holland's swampy provinces 9 per cent, of recruits to the army are rejected as being under height. The proportion in other provinces is only five. Nearly 100,000 soldiers and sailors in France become hopeless lunatics. Among mechanics the average is but 66 per 100,000. The average price of pearly oysters is I 21s per 100,
