The inhabitants of the Grand Hivere are still isolated, and it is impossible to aid them. Mount Pelee is vomiting yellow rushing whirlwinds of smoke and gas. Tiie pulverisation of tlie basalt tower of the Cathedral at St. Pierre, and the overthrow of the houses, indicates that blazing gas of incalculable force accompanied the eruption.
