HEALTH OF MAORIS.

DR POMARE UP NORTH.

(Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, last night. At the Maori meeting at Waahi yesterday, Dr. Pomare, Government Native Health Officer, addressed the gathering on the subject of “ Health for the Maori.” He gave the Natives some good advice as to the necessity of observing the laws of health, and raising their standard of living, pointing out that no matter how much they talked over their land troubles, Ineir land would be no use to them it they allowed their race to decay and die out owing to the non-observance of common sanitary laws through inattention to the rules of healthy living. Dr. Pomare was listened to with deep attention. His remarks made a considerable impression. Mahuta thanked him for coming to advise his people, and remarked that this was wnal the Maoris had stood in great need of for a long time past. Dr. Pomare went up to Otorohanga with the Native Minister last evening, and will spend about a fortnight visiting the various Native settlements in the Rohepotae, the Kawliia districts, and the Waikato.
