WANGANUI RACES. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wanganui, last night. Tho weather for the second day was cold and wet. A sum of ,£14,311 was put through the machino for the meeting, against £13,438 last meeting. The results wero:— Winter Oats. —Halbadier 1, Convoy 2, King Edward 3. All started. Won bv a length. Time 2.12 1-5, divs. £3 17s fid and £1 103 6d. Wanganui Steeplechase. —The Guard 1, Lochado 2, Plain Bill 3. Also started : Moifaa, Gobo, Sylvanus, and Shylock Won by a length. Time 6.24, divs. £2 5s and £3 18s fid. May Hurdles. —Frost 1, The Ilompie 2, Sabruer 3. Waiwera also started. Won on the post. Time 3.58 15, div. £3 Us. Hunters’ Hurdles.—Jack o-Lantern 1,
Hutana 2, Hokowhitu 3. All started. Won easily. Time 4.7, divs. £5 Is and £L 7s. Second Hack Hurdles.—Mangatera 1, Ngapuhi 2, Plainstone 3. All started. Won by a length. Time 3.12 25, divs. £6 8s fid and 19s. Final Steeplechase. —Scallywag 1, Madman 2, Sylvanus 3. Also ran: Dr. Bill, Frost, K Jam, Matarawa, and Dick. Won by five lengths. Time 4.10 45, divs. £2 5s and £1 12s 6d. Farewell Hack Flat. —Mussel 1, Hard Work 2, Dexterity 3. Scratched : Plain stone and The Guesscr. Won by a neck. Time 1.47 35, divs. £l9 15s fid and £5 Os 6d.
ANTICIPATIONS FOR TAKAPUNA MEETING. (Special to Times.) Auckland, last night. The Takapunn R.C. Meeting commences to-morrow (Saturday) at 12.45 p.m. Heavy rains have made the course very heavy. The following aro my anticipations : Maiden Hurdles: Tresham or Minerva. Maiden Plato: Francis Lovejoy or Numa (late Warwick). Pony : Sentinel or Seaspray. Birthday Handicap: Highlander and Military may fight it out, whilo Golden Rose and Moi are dangerous. First Hurdles : Mars or Haydn. Maidon Steeplechase: Sultana, Cavaliero, or Bellman, in the order named. Royal Handicap : Solo or Landlock.
