It is presumed that this would refer to the constitutional aspect rather than the salary, which was fixed by Constitution. Since Pallia, ment deals with the allowances, the Government propose in future to limit them to the maintenance of Government Houses at Melbourne and Sydney, at a cost of £5950, and will allow executive express telegrams and telephones £2250, making the total, with the salary, £IB,IOO. The Government intend to ask Parliament to * further grant £SOOO to cover the cost of Lord Hopetoun’s lighting, postages, printing, and fuel from January, 1901, to May of (his year. s Stowers, after three trials, was acquitted on tlie charge of child murder.
