HARBOR AFFAIRS.

(To the Editor of the Times)

Sir,—l -was much pleased to read the article in the Times, commenting on matters in connection with the Harbor Board. There was one fault, with the article'. It- was not half- strong*enough | The time has come when there should be some very plain speaking in regard to harbor matters, and I suppose it is the Times we must look to. for such speaking. Some of the little weaknesses of the dredge have been discovered in rather an expensive way. But the slip is a thing of beauty, if not a joy for ever. I would, like the Board to get the opinion of any practical person in regard to that work. The quality of the work is not to be cavilled at, hut the situation of the slip would make any nautical man inclined to say things, especially when such a model site was available. It will be a fine place for boats to get on s and they will come oft easy enough, but if that is all the Board has liad imview, I am afraid it is going ’to buy some more experience at a price that will make the ratepayers wince. The Board or its officers should have Hopetoun’s insignificant little income to work upon. -I am, etc., RATEPAYER.
