SIR JOSEPH WARD.

By Telegraph—Press Association Westport, last night. Sir J. G. Ward visited Seddonville today, and was entertained at a banquet. He also received several deputations, and promised to provide telephonic communication between Westport and Karamea. The Government, ho said, were in earnest about the State mine, but a clause in the State Coaj Mines Bill had made it necessary that the money should be placed on the Estimates for continuing the work. That was a clog on the machinery that he hoped to have removed next session. To-night, Sir Joseph and Lady Ward are being entertained at a banquet at Westport. In the course of a lengthy speech, Sir Joseph advocated an Imperial zollverein and reciprocal commercial treaties.
