(Per Press Association), AUCKLAND, last night. The Hon. ilail-joncs, accompanied by the Vice-President of the Law Society visited the new Law Courts tins morning. Suggestions were made, which the Minister promised to have attended to. The new Courts will he opened during the Coronation week, probably by the Hon. Mr McGowan. In tiie Supreme Court, William Walker, aged J(i, was convicted of breaking and entering. It was a bad case and lie was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment. For forgery, Thomas Wilson, aged 23, was sentenced to six months. For stealing a cash box Elizabeth Wright, aged 26, was admitted to probation for twelve months, on condition that she paid £l2 (is Hid, the- value of the property, within a fortnight, and costs £3 13s 6d after 14 days by 2s 6d instalments. NAPIER, last night.
At the Supreme Court, Apiha Tana, for indecent assault was admitted to 18 months’ probation, and ordered to pay £5 5s costs. John Matlieson and William Milligan, for theft at Woodvillc, received six months’ imprisonment. In the Native Land Title cases the Chief Justice made an order to strike out the mortgagees from the list of defendants.
FEILDING, last night. The ManawnUi Mounted Rifles and Feilding Mounted Rifles, who are in camp on Feilding Racecourse, held a church parade at St. John’s yesterday. About 80 mounted volunteers attended, accompanied by the Feilding and Manchester Brass Bands.
WELLINGTON, last night. The Governor writes to the Mayor "of Wellington stating that lie cannot ask the King to send a message to New Zealand per phonograph, as this colony could not expect to be singled out for special favour in the matter.

WESTPORT, last night. Sir Joseph Ward received deputations this morning. LYTTELTON, last night. Thomas Ramsay, sentenced in 1901 at Wellington to twelve and to eight months, for possessing burglars’ tools and breaking gaol, attempted to escape from Lyttelton gaol on Thursday night He had cut away a portion of the trap in the cell door, and had secreted a “ jemmy,” chisel, and skeleton key. ISLAND NEWS. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. The steamer Ovalau has arrived from 41 le Eastern Pacific, after a very long and tedious voyage of nine and a half days Irom Raratonga. -The usual time occupied is six days." Day after day, the gale continued, and the decks were awasli almost the whole time. It was the roughest and worst voyage the steamer lias ever made between these two ports.
Cook Island news per Ovalau states that Resident Commissioner Gudgeon has appointed an Island Council at Palmerston, and appointed Mr Masters Native Magistrate at Nieu. The Cook Islands Gazette contains four ordinances which have received the sanction of the New Zealand Government, including Penhryn Island in the Act imposing taxes on traders, penalties on any section of the community screening a member thereof convicted of theft, and restrictions on the sale of cocoanuts and pearlsheli.
As the result of imposing a New Zealand tariff, one large Tahiti firm has commenced business at Mangaia, and another is negotiating for premises at Raratonga.
