MR SEDDON IN SOUTH AFRICA.

Replying to the Durban Corporation’s address of welcome, Mr Seddon said New Zealand desired peace on an everlasting basis. If more men were wanted, more would be sent. Mr Seddon had an enthusiastic recep. tion. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland last night. A cable message has been received by the Hon. Mr Carroll, stating that the Drayton Grange arrived at Durban all well. Only eight horses were lost on the voyage. Mr SeddoD waß well received. General Baden-Powell welcomed him in person, and representatives from Lord Milner, Lord Kitchener, and the Premier of Cape Colony gave him a cordial welcome to South Africa. There were also addresses of welcome from the Lancashire and Yorkshire Societies. Mr Seddon intends to spend a week in South Africa, and will go as far North as Johannesburg.

Westport, last night. • Sir Joseph Ward has received the following cablegram from the Premier at Durban : “ I forgot to tell you that one cause of our late arrival was searching for a derelict Dutch barque in mid-ocean. The oaptain, his wife, and sixteen of the crew were rescued in an open boat. We lost only eight horses.” STEAMER WRECKED. The entire cargo is discharged.
