SO-CALLED PARSIMONY. REVELLING IN THOUSANDS. By Telegraph—Press AssociationCopyright. LONDON, May 18/ The Pall Mall Gazette declares that it will be a calamity if Lord Hopetoun's services are lost through parsimony.

MELBOURNE, May 19. For the eighteen months ending June the Governor-General’s establishment cost about £38,000, made up as follows : —Salary £15,000, allowance for the Royal visit £IO,OOO, allowance paid or to be paid by, the Government £13,000. To this will have to be added repairs to Government House at Melbourne and Sydney. Under tho new arrangement the Governor-General in future will have to pay many items of allowances out of his salary. Sir George Turner states that Lord Hopetoun has spent £19,000 since his arrival.
