THAT APPOINTMENT.
(To the Editor of the Times)
Sir,—As a County ratepayer I would like to have a word about that Charitable Aid Secretaryship. I am not joining with those the tone of whose letters indicates that they; are friends of disappointed applicants... I do not think that a better choice could well bemade as far as the man is concerned ; 1 also agree that he is not being paid his full value by Council. But is not the Borough doing a bit of sharp urac.tice at the expense of us simple country folk over this matter ? We appeal in va'in for funds for little works, but here we have it on the statements of
the Borough Councillors themselves, a saving is being made to the Borough of £2O at the expense of the country people. Now, I can show our County Councillors many places where an expenditure of £2O at the present time of the year would save them hundreds at a later stage. In the saving of interest it would be of no small value to a liard-up Council. Are our County preservatives sleeping when they allow such doings to slide without protest ? —I am. etc.. COUNTY,
