Tiicro was a large attendance at the funeral of the late Mr E. S. Hooper, which took place yesterday. An address on tho subject of “No License” will he given at the Theatre Royal to-morrow evening by the Rev. W. Ready. There was no word of tho Omapere’s arrival in Auckland last evening, and her departure "for Coast ports and Gisborne has been act down for Monday. Captain Edwin wired at 12.40 p.in. yesterday : “Heavy gale from between north and west and south-west ; glass fall, tides good, indications of much rain.’ At tho meeting of tho Whataupoko Road Board, held yesterday afternoon, seven applications were received for the position of clerk, and Mr J. M. Cumining was appointed.
At the Auckland Supreme Court yesterday, on the application of the Bank of New Zealand, cue sale of the East Coast lands was further postponed to August 29th. Roller skating is again becoming verypopular in tho South Island. Several rinks are now in full swing, and everything points to a boom equal to that ol 1888. We understand that a rink will shortly be started in Gisborne.
Rev. W. Ready will be the preacher at Wesley Church on Sunday morning. Subject, “ A Model Patriot and Nation Builder.” Evening, “ -What tho Church Has'to Show tho Gentlemen from Babylon.”
Nothing further lTas transpired in regard to the safe robbery at Roselaud. Rumors were current in town yesterday that two men had been arrested, also that one of the burglars had turned Ring’s evidence, but these reports were entirely without foundation.
The Rev. Canon Eox has consented to give a lecture at the Mutual Improvement Society on the 26th, on the subject of Martinique, St. Vincent, and the West Indies. Canon Fox has been a visitor to the scene of the terrible eruption, and his lecture should prove of great interest to everyone.
A young man named Edward Schrocder was received into the Hospital last evening, suffering from a compound fracture of the leg. It appears that he was engaged bushfelling at Wharekopae on Thursday afternoon, when a tree fell on him. The log was removed by his mates, who brought Schroeder to the Hospital last night, llr Craig then setting the fractured limb.

A committee meeting of the Gisborne Poultry Club was hekl-at Mr H. M. Porter’s office last night. Present : Messrs 0. It. Moore (in the chair), H. Williams, P. Schwabe, u. Humphreys, H. Bennie, W. Eraser, \V. Green, J. Newton, W. Gault, and thsecretary; It was Decided to hold the Show on July 11th and 12th m tne Academy of Music. Mr F. Dacre was appointed to act as judge of the whole of the exhibits. The secretary reported that the members’ tickets were Doing printed, and would he ready for distribution next week, also, the prize schedule was well lor ward, and would be through the papers at an early date. It was decided to add a class for homer pigeons to the pigeon classes, also classes for Persian and jlher cats. A general discussion took dace in reference to a champ onship cup. Eventually it was decided .o adiorrn the subject 1 till next meeting. ' , was also decided that until show time tlie members meet each Tuesday ,0 transact any business.
