THAT APPOINTMENT.

(To the Editor of the Times), guj —The ratepayers in the Borough of Gisborne will note with pleasure the appointment of the Town Clerk to tho secretaryship of the Charitable Aid Board, and will view with gratitude that gentlemen’s generosity in devoting £2O of the salary towards providing an assistant clerk tor the Borough Council. The ratepayers of the other bodies contributing to the Charitable Aid Fund, viz. the Cook County and Waiapu County, would no doubt receive with equal gratitude an extension to themselves of the new secretary’s generosity in similar donations, say, £2O to provide further assistanoo in Cook County office, and £lO might satisfy the ambitions of an assistant clerk in the Waipiro office. If this course is followed it wul prevent illnatured people cavilling at the Borough Council for maintaining their staff out of Charitable Aid funds.—l am, etc., Admiration.
